George C. Pesut, USCG Ret.
George Charles Pesut was born October 29, 1931 and passed away surrounded by his loved
ones on March 15, 2017.
He is survived by his wife, Peg Pesut, daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Monty Mims, and his grandsons,
Jasper and Conor. Also surviving are his sister, Madelyn Kotan, brother, Louis Pesut, sister and brother-in-
laws, Cathy & Bill Marozas and nieces & nephews, Beverly, April, Anne, Peggy, Tim, Maureen, Bill, Pat, Bill,
Julie, Brian, and Kelly.
Growing up in Chicago during the 1930’s molded George’s life. He learned the value of family and friends
through those tough years to become a selfless and dependable man. He taught all around him to savor life.
George and Peg were blessed to find each other and lived a life of love, companionship, and trust for forty-two
years. They are an illustration of the unmatched loyalty that can exist between two people. George was the
touchstone in his daughter’s life, who offered advice whenever Nicole needed it. George’s sensitive nature made
him an incredible, supportive father and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for his daughter.
He loved his time with the Coast Guard, which took him all over the world, while enhancing his passion for music
and reading. He was proud of his Croatian roots and passed on his epicurean delights to others. Another one of
George’s favorite past times was creating spectacular displays of lights during the Christmas holidays. George’s
wry sense of humor and wit made him a favorite with his nieces and nephews. George never said goodbye to a
child without handing over a folded bill or a new token to add to their coin collection.
George lived with Type I Diabetes until the age of 85. In his last few years of his life, George was able to enjoy
watching his grandsons begin their lives, and he was finally able to see his beloved Cubbies become world
champions, wearing his Cubs jacket on his last earthly day.
A military service to honor the life of George Pesut is scheduled for Friday, March 24, 2017 at 10:00 am at Bay
Pines National Cemetery with the United States Coast Guard Providing military honors. Guests planning on
